OUR STORY
The Asia Pacific Crafts Alliance (APCA) has been developed in response to the changing needs of the crafts sector and its ecosystems in our region; updated structural and organisational requirements, and accountable systems able to work effectively with governments, agencies and foundations.
We value the necessity of the handmade in maintaining the cultural health and histories of our vast region. Our commitment and passion are for supporting all processes and interactions of the handmade, with emphasis on the importance of innovation and integration of craft, design, architecture, fashion and beyond, and the ways these elements contribute to changing and sustainable communities.
We have a deep network, with partnerships across this immense region - from Oman in the west to South Korea in the east; Kazakhstan in the North and Sri Lanka in the south; and reaching into the vast South Pacific Ocean.
Among the vast numbers of languages and dialects across this most heavily populated region of our planet is the common language is that of the handmade. Infused by stories, cultures, shared histories and traditions, we communicate through the objects created by craft artisans.
APCA is a non-profit organisation working in collaboration with our member organisations, governments and foundations and with key partner organisations around the world. Our work is overseen by a voluntary board of directors drawn from member countries and regions.
