Publication of New Global Craft Education eBooks
Congratulations to Lindy Joubert (Australia), on the publication of her new books.
These two new companion volumes, edited by Lindy, bring together international voices to examine the vital role of craft in contemporary society and education.
Craft Shaping Society: Educating in the Crafts—The Global Experience (Book One) and Craft—Tradition and Invention: Educating in the Crafts—The Global Experience (Book Two) present a rich collection of essays from artisans, educators, researchers, and cultural practitioners from more than 20 countries. Together, the books explore how traditional craft knowledge is being revitalised through modern technologies, education systems, and entrepreneurial practice.
Book One focuses on craft as a living cultural practice, highlighting how skills, tools, and materials connect heritage with innovation. Through global case studies, contributors reveal how craft supports creativity, employment, and environmental sustainability, making a strong link between education, skills development, and meaningful work within Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Book Two expands this dialogue in the context of rapid global change, including the Fourth Industrial Revolution and climate challenges. It emphasises the urgent need to redefine craft education to safeguard cultural heritage while preparing learners for future employment. Aligned with UNESCO’s TVET priorities, the volume demonstrates how craft can foster community wellbeing, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.
Together, these volumes position craft education as a powerful force for social, cultural, and environmental resilience. They show that craft is not only about making objects, but about shaping identities, strengthening communities, and building sustainable futures in a changing world.
