A new chapter for craft begins in Zhongxing New Village!

In 2026, The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) is launching the Zhongxing International Craft Village, along with its first-ever Residency Program Open Call, inviting craft artists and creators from Taiwan and around the world to live, work, experiment, and create in Zhongxing Craft Village.

Rooted in the area’s distinctive cultural landscape and local character, the Craft Village is envisioned as a vibrant hub where creative talent, craft practice, exhibitions, industry, and international exchange come together.

This program aims to provide craft practitioners with on-site support and creative inspiration from working in a new geographical context. During the residency, participants will engage with the region’s distinctive natural ecology and cultural landscape, connecting with the roots of Taiwan’s craft industry. Through exchanges between international craft practitioners’ own experiences and the local culture, natural environment, history, and related cultural issues, residents are encouraged to transform these cross-cultural experiences and impressions into creative practices and craft works that respond to the spirit of the place.

Important Dates:

• Open Call: August – September 2026

• Review Period & Results Announcement: September – October 2026

• Residency Period: October - December 2026 (3 months)

Applications are open to

• Taiwan Applicants - Individuals or groups engaged in craft creation who hold R.O.C. (Taiwan) nationality.

• International Applicants - Individual craft creators of foreign nationality or those holding a valid visa permitting residence in Taiwan.

• Individual Applicants - Applicants must be at least 20 years old and may not be currently enrolled as students.

• Group Applicants - Groups must consist of two or more members and be legally registered craft-related organisations or associations in Taiwan. A maximum of three members may participate in the residency.

Successful applicants may receive some support for their residency, including accommodation and living expenses. Details to be arranged between the applicant and NCTRI

Applications open 1st October - 10th November 2026

The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) is pleased to announce the open call for the 2027 Grant Cycle.

ACC offers four distinct grant categories tailored to individual creatives, researchers, students, and institutions:

• New York Fellowship: An immersive six-month residency program designed for international artists and cultural professionals to engage deeply with the vibrant arts ecosystem of New York City and the wider United States.

• Individual Fellowship: A highly flexible program offering variable duration, budgets, and locations for artists and scholars pursuing self-directed cultural exploration and research.

• Graduate Fellowship: Provides vital living stipends for exceptional students from eligible Asian countries and regions who have been admitted to graduate degree programs within the U.S.

• Organisation Grant: Financial support for non-profit organizations executing projects that facilitate deeper cultural research, peer collaboration, or expanded access to regional artistic communities.

Applications open 26th March - 5th May 2027

Application dates have been announced for the 2027 Cheongju International Craft Competition and Cheongju Craft Biennale.

Preliminary information for the competition is now on their website and you can also download a pdf here. This information is currently available in Korean, but more language translations should become available closer to the time.

The Competition exhibition will be open during the Biennale events from 2nd September to 31st October 2027.

The Artistic Director for the 15th Cheongju Craft Biennale has also been officially announced. Kim Ye-sung is widely recognised as a seasoned "rising curator" with extensive experience in the domestic and international craft sectors, notably curating the 2026 KCDF traveling craft exhibition, Shared Assets. The guest country for the Biennale will be Poland.

She has declared the theme for the 15th Cheongju Craft Biennale to be Back to Human. In the era of Artificial Intelligence, where AI has permeated human life and the realm of art, and in a time of rapid upheaval marked by war and the climate crisis, this theme embodies a cultural practice aimed at reflecting on how we engage with the world. Through craft - which is fundamentally connected to human spirit, senses, and emotions - it seeks to redefine our relationships and attitudes.

This will also be the first Biennale since Cheongju was designated a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts.
